I recently had a little shopping spree on Depop. There are a lot of mixed opinions when it comes to buying second hand makeup but I think it’s a great way to get expensive products heavily discounted (as long as they’ve been sanitised!) The Nars Audacious Lipsticks have been on my wish list for a really long time, so when I saw my favourite shade on sale for £10 including P&P (£24 RRP) I had to snatch it up.
This is probably the most ‘fancy’ lipstick I own. The sleek black magnetic packaging feels incredibly luxurious and expensive and definitely sets it apart from others in my collection. The outer packaging also features a very subtle Nars logo, as well as it being embossed on the lipstick bullet itself.
The shade Barbara is a classic mauve/brown shade and is actually very similar to the cult favourite Velvet Teddy by MAC. However, I find it a little easier to wear than Velvet Teddy as it’s slightly more pink than brown. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still not particularly natural looking as it’s pretty thick and matte, but that means application and longevity are it’s strong points and I’m happy to say it would beat most of my other lipsticks in those two areas.
The formula is creamy and moisturising on application and though it has a very thick texture and almost matte finish, it doesn’t lose its moisture and I comfortably wear it for several hours without feeling like I need to take it off or apply any more.
But for £24, is it worth it? I’m really impressed with the shade range and the fact that these lipsticks are very pigmented but moisturising at the same time – a combination hard to come by – but I’m not sure I’d ever spend £24 on one of these babies. I very happily paid £10 on Depop (and it’s barely been used at all), but anything above the £20 mark for a lipstick is a little out of my budget and I need something to really wow me for that amount of money. Then again, I’ve paid the same amount of money for YSL & Chanel lipsticks in the past and I’m far more impressed with this than I was with those, so if we’re talking “the best of the high end lipsticks”, I’d say this is definitely the best I have personally tried.
I probably wouldn’t repurchase this full price, but if I came across it on offer I probably wouldn’t need a lot of persuasion. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but MAC’s Velvet Teddy is actually £10 cheaper and very similar, so I’d get that in stead if you want to save some cash. If money is no object for you, I would definitely splurge on the Nars Audacious lipsticks. Pretty much every shade on offer is gorgeous and I know this is going to become my favourite day-to-day lipstick.
