Friday Favourites: Real Life

I know I’m writing this on a Saturday when it’s a Friday post, but it’s because I was contemplating whether to post it at all as it’s a little more personal than usual and I wasn’t sure whether any of you would be interested in more life-related posts. But the thing I’m going to talk about is important to me, so even if none of you enjoy it, I enjoyed writing it ๐Ÿ˜‰ if you don’t like cheesy, stop reading now!
Most families go through bad times together at some point, but the past year has been particularly tough for the Harper household. I’m not going to go into it because a lot of it is very personal, but I want to talk about one member of the family that just holds everything together, and a song that’s dedicated to her.
When we go through problems, my mum always knows how to handle it. I don’t think she really realises how incredible she is, she is literally the glue of our family and the rest of us would be festering in our own mess and living on ready meals by now if it wasn’t for her! This whole post is actually about a song, so I’m going to keep it relatively short. It’s one of my dad’s songs called ‘Real Life’, hence the name of this post. Again, I won’t go into detail on what the song is about because obviously it’s for you to interpret it how you like. I can tell you, though, that it was written about my mum and the fact that ‘she never forgets to shine her light’.
I think it’s very easy to take our loved ones for granted, especially members of our families that we see every day, and it’s really important to keep them close to us because they’re the people that are always there whenever and whatever we need them for. So, please give the song a listen (Real Life – YouTube, BUT it’s only 79p on iTunes and then you can listen to the proper version!) and just have a think about someone that means a lot to you that you maybe take for granted. I listen to this whenever I feel like I need a bit of cheering up and it never fails to make me a bit emotional because it reminds me that I’ll always have my mum. I also love it because it’s my dad’s song, so obviously it has a lot of personal meaning to me. I warned you this would be cheesy…
Please give it a listen, I hope it makes you think about the people special to you and reminds you that you’re never alone. Whoever it is, I’m sure you have someone in your life that cares about you a lot ๐Ÿ™‚
