Today’s post is going to be a quick little one about an amazing dupe I found recently. I actually received this liquid lipstick in my March Love Me Beauty subscription box, which happened to be my favourite box from them so far. A little bit about Love Me Beauty before I get into the review: LMB is a beauty subscription box that gets delivered to your door once a month, but it’s different to (and better than, in my opinion) the other subscription services out there as you actually get to choose what’s in your box, rather than the company choosing for you. There’s a mixture of deluxe samples and full sized products, and you’re in charge. I’m actually a beauty ambassador for LMB, so if you’d like 50% off your box (making it only £5!), you can use the code lily50 – let me know if you use my discount code and what you decide to put in your box!
One of my favourite things in March’s box was this liquid lipstick by Cailyn in the shade ‘Modernist’. I hadn’t actually heard of Cailyn before Love Me Beauty, but it’s a pretty high end, high quality makeup brand. I was particularly excited to receive a liquid lipstick as they’re all the rage at the moment and I needed to build up my collection! I also didn’t have any in this sort of shade.
Straight off the bat, the packaging is pretty bulky which I’m not a fan of – unnecessarily oversized packaging is just annoying and not great for the environment either. However, what I did like was that the lid of the outer packaging shows the shade of lipstick inside which is always handy, especially if you’re in a shop and can’t swatch them yourself.
The Cailyn liquid lipsticks actually come in a huge range of 24 shades, which is seriously impressive when in comparison with other makeup brands. They also carry a pretty good selection of colours with dupes for more expensive popular shades from Jeffree Star, ABH and Dose of Colors, so I’d really recommend checking the rest of them out if red isn’t your thing. That being said, the shade I got was ‘Modernist’, an orange-based red. I absolutely love these kinds of bold lips as the orange tone makes them more wearable in spring and summer months while still making a statement. In terms of colour, I think it’s a spot on dupe for the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in the shade ’22’ which was one of the new shades she recently released. I don’t actually own any of the Kylie Lip Kits, but if you’re wanting to try them out but keep missing the re-releases (or are scared of customs charges like me), I’d give these a go.
The lipsticks also have a lovely vanilla scent to them, similar to MAC products. The application is pretty straightforward as the lipsticks have a doe foot applicator, and I had no trouble applying the colour nice and evenly, which is usually difficult with such a bold shade. However, I’d still recommend using a lip liner as you would with any bold lipstick. While it’s not the most moisturising liquid lipstick I own (shout out to the Anastasia liquid lipsticks), it also didn’t dry out my lips. It wore well and I didn’t feel the need to touch up either.
