Food is the way to
a man’s everyone’s heart. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, people everywhere are walking around with Pandora bags, boxes of chocolates and various other pink, heart-covered gifts to surprise their loved one with on February 14th. Though I’m a huge fan of showing affection and any excuse to buy gifts for people, I’m not all that keen on the commercial hype around Valentine’s Day. I feel like love should be something we show whenever we feel like it, not when we’re expected to. Having said that, this little box of chocolates has wiggled its way into my heart and might just have changed my mind…
The lovely team over at Hotel Chocolat recently got in touch to ask whether I’d like to try some of the chocolates from their Valentine’s collection, as well as sending a secret Valentine’s gift to another blogger. I was immediately drawn in by the free chocolate and thought it was such a sweet idea – not something I’d heard of any other brands doing before. I’ve always been a lover of Hotel Chocolat; they’re a very unique company offering ethically produced, high quality chocolate – they even grow some of their own cocoa. I always have to go in when I walk past one of their shops, it’s like a ‘grown up’ version of visiting your local sweet shop when you were little.
My box of choice was the ‘Hearts and Truffles’ box. It’s one of the medium sizes and features a range of classic and slightly more interesting flavours – but it was the gorgeous champagne gold box that won me over. I was immediately impressed at the amount of effort they had put into gift wrapping the box and making it look as special as they could. At £25 it’s certainly not the most affordable chocolate box out there, but I honestly think it’s completely worth it. Their chocolates have a very high cocoa count (and you can really taste the difference), and the general presentation and luxury feel to all of their products makes them, in my opinion, unbeatable.
But, if you need something more within your budget, they offer lots of smaller boxes and treats. You can have a little look here – I’d really recommend the Salted Caramel Truffles (£3.50) or the Blushing Hearts Chocolate Truffles (£7.50).
The flavours are definitely something special in this box and I hadn’t tried lots of them, which I thought was a great idea for Valentine’s as you can share them with your loved ones and decide on your favourites together (and maybe your not-so-favourites!). As someone who sticks to my tried and true flavours when it comes to chocolate, I absolutely loved the Praline Heart, Salted Caramel and Mousse au Chocolats, but I’ve really enjoyed the Carrot Cake and Berry Delightful chocs too – the rest I’m saving!
So, if you’re a bit stuck, you can’t really go wrong with chocolates – and these are the best of the bunch. With more than 80 shops in the UK, this is a really easy little gift to get your hands on – or if you’re going to be spending Valentine’s on your own this year, have them as a treat to yourself! I’ll certainly be munching on them while Joe and I have our Skype date (unless I’ve polished them off before then…)
What are your plans this weekend? Have you bought anything special for your Valentine? Thanks for reading and I’ll see you in Monday’s video x
