I have a bit of a different post for you today! As some of you may already know, one of my hobbies is photography and I am now taking it in my second year of sixth form. At the beginning of the year I chose ‘Appearances’ as my topic as I knew I could develop the idea of appearances into stereotypes and aspects of psychology such as conformity.
I found it really difficult at first to get to grips with this project. I was really passionate about the ideas I had as I hate how often people stereotype and bully people because of the way they look, but it was hard to actually take the photographs. BUT, I recently decided to change the way I looked at it and go back to what I know I can do well – simple make-up portrait shoots. This way I can also experiment with make-up which I love doing.
The following photos are one from each of the four looks I tried out. The beautiful model is my friend Sian, who I also used last year for photography. I took inspiration from the fashion/make-up photographer Karla Powell, and ended up with these…
