A-Level Photography

I have a bit of a different post for you today! As some of you may already know, one of my hobbies is photography and I am now taking it in my second year of sixth form. At the beginning of the year I chose ‘Appearances’ as my topic as I knew I could develop the idea of appearances into stereotypes and aspects of psychology such as conformity.

I found it really difficult at first to get to grips with this project. I was really passionate about the ideas I had as I hate how often people stereotype and bully people because of the way they look, but it was hard to actually take the photographs. BUT, I recently decided to change the way I looked at it and go back to what I know I can do well – simple make-up portrait shoots. This way I can also experiment with make-up which I love doing.

The following photos are one from each of the four looks I tried out. The beautiful model is my friend Sian, who I also used last year for photography. I took inspiration from the fashion/make-up photographer Karla Powell, and ended up with these…

I was particularly impressed with these because I took most of them on my iPhone (the top two). It was a chance for me to test it out (5S) and see whether I can use it for photography, as I’d already tried to use it for YouTube and failed! Just thought I’d share several with you as I’m feeling much better about the deadline in January now!
Thank you for reading my little posts and please comment below if you’d like me to post more about my photography with little updates etc.
